Larger mattresses have been the standard in American homes since the 1950s and 60s. At the time, many couples chose to buy the larger Queen mattress as opposed to a full. If you’re on the market for a mattress, here’s what you need to know before you make the investment.

A Full mattress measures 54 inches wide and 75 inches long. This is the same length as a standard twin, hence the fact that it is sometimes referred to as a “double.” It used to be the most popular bed size until marketing companies changed tactics and started convincing consumers they needed even bigger beds.
If you’re looking for a mattress for a small guest bedroom or your growing child, the Full mattress is a perfect option. If you’re single and don’t think you need the extra space of a Queen, the Full would also be a great choice. Keep in mind that this mattress isn’t as long as a queen, so if you’re exceptionally tall, you might find it uncomfortable.
The Queen mattress is 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. Sometimes a King-sized mattress can simply take up too much space, so the Queen is perfect size for you and your partner. If you’re single but on the taller side, this mattress will give you more comfort than a Full while you sleep. A Queen is also a great option to put in your guest bedroom for couples to sleep in.
